Contrary to Editor-in-Chief Anand Persaud’s assertion that the Office of the President deliberately excluded Stabroek News from a high-profile press conference, Director of Public Information Edward Layne has come forward with an alternative account. According to Layne, accredited journalists from various media houses were indeed invited to attend the briefing, including Marcelle Fowler of Stabroek News.
Layne clarified that Fowler was contacted via telephone and formally invited to cover the event, receiving a follow-up WhatsApp message at 2:30 PM to confirm her attendance. However, it appears that Stabroek News was the only media house absent from the press conference.
In response to Persaud’s claim of exclusion, Layne labeled it as "disingenuous and troubling". He pointed out that every other invited journalist was present at the briefing, casting doubt on Persaud’s assertion. The DPI Director concluded that Stabroek News’ absence was not a deliberate snub, but rather an anomaly in the otherwise inclusive process.
