ATF Special Agent Travis Riddle, from the St. Paul Field Division, expressed strong confidence that authorities will soon apprehend the suspect involved in the tragic shootings of two Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses. The manhunt for 57-year-old Vance L. Boelter, accused of murdering former House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, alongside injuring State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, has now extended into a second day.
In a coordinated effort, local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies are actively pursuing leads, with the FBI offering a $50,000 reward for information that could lead to Boelter’s capture. During an interview, Riddle emphasized the collective grief over the senseless violence while noting that Boelter is considered armed and dangerous.
Authorities detained a vehicle carrying Boelter’s relatives on Saturday, recovering firearms, ammunition, cash, and passports, although his wife has not been arrested. As the investigation progresses, Riddle condemned the violent acts targeting the political figures, labeling them as unacceptable political violence that undermines democracy.
Boelter is described as a white male, approximately 6’1″ tall, 220 pounds, with brown hair and eyes, last seen wearing a light cowboy hat and a dark long-sleeved shirt. Investigators believe he is trying to escape the area. A manifesto was discovered at the scene, but it is too early to determine its relevance. If spotted, the public has been advised to contact authorities immediately and not approach him.
