Shemaine Campbelle, skipper of the Guyana Amazon Warriors and West Indies vice-captain, expressed disappointment with the fan support for her team during the recent Massy Caribbean Premier League. Despite being a nail-biting loss in the final against the Barbados Royals, the veteran wicketkeeper-batter attributed the lack of crowd turnout to fans preferring to attend men’s games.
”To be honest, we are very disappointed because most of the fans have been collecting tickets and they have not been coming out to support the women. They keep the tickets for the men’s game and we are very much disappointed about it,” said Campbelle. ”We must say thanks to the few that come out and support us.” The Amazon Warriors’ skipper added that the loss was all the harder due to the lack of fan support, which had made their campaign even more disappointing.
On the other hand, winning captain Chinelle Henry expressed her pride and elation at guiding her side to an unprecedented third title. She dedicated the win to injured team captain Hayley Matthews and praised the girls for their exceptional performance throughout the tournament.
