Boulder, Colorado is reeling following a shocking event where a man has been arrested for a terror attack that left six individuals, aged 67 to 88, injured. Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, was apprehended by law enforcement as he allegedly set several peaceful Israeli supporters on fire while shouting “Free Palestine”. This incident unfolded around 1:26 p.m. near the county courthouse and was described as a “targeted terror attack” by the FBI.
Chief Steve Redfearn of the Boulder Police Department reported that officers responded swiftly to the scene after receiving calls about a man with a weapon. Authorities have begun an investigation into what they are calling an act of “ideologically motivated violence” based on early evidence and witness accounts.
The attack coincided with a ‘Run for Their Lives’ event aimed at advocating for the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas, which has raised concerns about the rising wave of anti-Jewish hate crimes highlighted by organizations like the Anti-Defamation League. Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser condemned the violence, stressing that differing opinions should never justify such hate-fueled actions. Governor Jared Polis also condemned the attack as a “heinous act of terror”, affirming the state’s commitment to support the ongoing investigation.
The surrounding area has been evacuated as authorities continue their investigation, which includes examining a suspicious vehicle connected to the attack. The concerning rise in violent acts of hate underscores the need for tolerance and accountability.
