In a shocking turn of events, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents apprehended 52-year-old Jose Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, a Mexican national, after he was let go by a Lake County judge despite being implicated in the decapitation of a missing Illinois woman, Megan Bos.
Mendoza-Gonzalez was initially arrested in April and charged with unlawful concealment, corpse abuse, and obstructing justice. His first court appearance led to his release, a decision that drew widespread outrage from local officials. Authorities recovered Bos’s remains, reported missing in early March, found in a bleach-filled container in Mendoza-Gonzalez’s yard.
DHS officials revealed that Bos’s body had been decapitated and hidden for nearly two months in appalling conditions. After his release, Mendoza-Gonzalez was reportedly overheard claiming that Bos had overdosed at his residence, yet he failed to report the incident.
Antioch Mayor Scott Gartner condemned the laws allowing such releases, emphasizing the dangers posed by individuals suspected of serious crimes. Similarly, Republican State Rep. Tom Weber questioned the rationale behind Mendoza-Gonzalez’s release, highlighting the seriousness of his alleged offenses.
As the case unfolds, the expectations for justice for Bos’s family remain at the forefront, calling for a stronger response to violent crimes committed by undocumented individuals.
