LNDCH4 Guyana proudly announces the arrival of its Backup Battery Storage System (BESS), which has successfully reached the John Fernandes wharf. This system is a vital component of the emergency support for the power plant, designed to ensure continuous energy delivery even during turbine malfunctions.
The advanced BESS showcases LNDCH4’s dedication to providing reliable power solutions for Guyana, boasting a total capacity of 30 megawatts (MW). It arrived in twenty-two containers that include battery racks, six inverters, auxiliary transformers, and a fully equipped Power Distribution Center (PDC) shelter.
Additionally, the system is outfitted with an Energy Management System (EMS), Battery Management System (BMS), Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), and vital safety features such as fire suppression and HVAC units, ensuring optimal operational performance under any circumstances.
With the ability to respond instantly, the BESS plays a crucial role in safeguarding the electrical grid and maintaining stability during unforeseen events.
This delivery adds to the array of essential components for the Gas-to-Energy (GtE) project, which already includes two cutting-edge gas turbines, each with a generating capacity of 45 MW.
This significant milestone underscores LNDCH4’s commitment to operational excellence and bolsters the efficiency and reliability of Guyana’s GtE initiative. Country manager Humberto Lopez emphasized that this progress is vital for stabilizing the national grid, reducing carbon emissions, and providing affordable electricity across the nation.
With ongoing work adhering to international quality standards, the arrival of the BESS signifies a crucial advancement towards a modern, energy-secure future for Guyana.
