Tyler Robinson, 22, is being held under a special watch status in the Utah County Sheriff’s Department until he completes a mental health evaluation.
The process may take several days, and once cleared, Robinson will continue with the classification process to determine where he will be housed while in custody.
Robinson was arrested following a 33-hour manhunt after allegedly shooting and killing Charlie Kirk, 31, at Utah Valley University. Kirk, a married father of two young children, was speaking to a crowd during a Turning Point USA event on the school’s campus in Orem.
The sheriff’s department said Robinson will be monitored by mental, medical, and custody staff throughout his stay.
