
Georgetown, Guyana. June 13, 2025 – LNDCH4 Guyana proudly announces the successful arrival of its Backup Battery Storage System (BESS) at John Fernandes wharf. This essential component serves as a vital safeguard for the power plant’s emergency protocol, ensuring that energy supply remains uninterrupted during any turbine failure.
The advanced battery system, boasting a capacity of 30 megawatts (MW), arrived in 22 containers containing battery racks, six inverters, auxiliary transformers, and a comprehensive Power Distribution Center (PDC) shelter. It includes an Energy Management System (EMS), Battery Management System (BMS), Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), fire suppression mechanisms, and HVAC units for optimal safety and performance in various conditions.
The BESS is designed to provide immediate backup power, preserving the electrical grid’s integrity and operational stability in unforeseen circumstances. This delivery underscores significant advancements in the Gas-to-Energy (GtE) project and LNDCH4’s unwavering commitment to Guyana’s energy future. Country manager Humberto Lopez noted that this shipment affirms their dedication to operational excellence.
As a crucial element of Guyana’s transformative Gas-to-Energy initiative, the BESS is poised to elevate the project’s efficiency and reliability, contributing to the stabilization of the national grid, the reduction of carbon emissions, and the provision of affordable electricity to households and businesses throughout the nation.
