Barry Morphew has been extradited from Arizona to Colorado to face charges for the murder of his wife, Suzanne Morphew, who disappeared on May 10, 2020, while biking on Mother’s Day. Official reports confirm that he was moved from the 4th Avenue Jail in Phoenix to Alamosa County Jail following a grand jury indictment.
Barry Morphew, accused of first-degree murder, maintains his innocence, as stated by his attorney, David Beller, who criticized the prosecution’s approach, claiming it led them to a predetermined conclusion. The case has unfolded over several years, with significant developments taking place in 2023 when Suzanne’s remains were discovered in Saguache County, exhibiting unusual signs of decomposition.
Evidence presented in court disclosed that chemicals typically used for tranquilizing deer were found in Suzanne’s bone marrow, linking Barry to the substance. He had been the only person in their area with a prescription for the tranquilizer, which he admitted to using in the past.
Originally charged in 2021, those charges were dropped due to prosecutorial misconduct but allowed the possibility for future recharges. Reports indicate that Suzanne had considered leaving Barry prior to her disappearance, suggesting underlying tensions in their relationship.
