
On Monday, Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips held a community engagement session in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), as part of the government’s expansive public outreach program. During this meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to a consultative and inclusive approach to governance, aiming for equitable national development.
He introduced several significant government initiatives, including the provision of over 50,000 house lots, development of new healthcare facilities, and the implementation of telemedicine in health centers in remote areas. The Prime Minister also noted direct cash transfers to citizens and ongoing investments in education and renewable energy.
Specifically for Region Seven, he announced the successful launch of a solar farm in Bartica, generating more than 1.5 megawatts of electricity. This advancement has resulted in the town receiving power surpassing its current demands. Moreover, solar units have been distributed to hinterland and riverine communities, with plans to extend these services to unserved areas.
During the session, the Prime Minister addressed residents’ concerns regarding energy reliability, housing accessibility, and the need for infrastructural improvements. This engagement reflects the government’s initiative to connect with citizens and respond to their needs effectively.
