This commitment was conveyed by Canada’s High Commissioner to Guyana, Sébastien Sigouin, during a reception on Canada Day at his residence in Georgetown.
At the event, which brought together diplomats, civil society members, and government representatives, Mr. Sigouin stated that Canada would collaborate with the Guyana Council of Organisations for Persons with Disabilities, the Organization of American States, and the Carter Center to ensure that the elections are accessible and fair. He emphasized that a robust democracy is vital for national strength.
Additionally, the High Commissioner highlighted Canada’s ongoing commitment to Guyana’s broader development aspirations, mentioning cooperation in areas like climate resilience, education, and economic growth. He reflected on the historic partnership between both nations and envisioned further collaboration in fostering Guyana’s development and protecting its autonomy.
