The Guyana Police Force has announced that retired Canadian homicide investigator, Leonard McCoshan, found no indication of foul play in the tragic death of 11-year-old Adriana Younge. Engaged by the Government to aid local authorities in the investigation, McCoshan’s conclusions align with a recent post-mortem report declaring that the cause of death was drowning.
According to the findings released by the Police, the tragic incident has been officially categorized as a drowning, with no evidence pointing towards any criminal behavior. This assurance follows the autopsy performed three weeks prior, conducted by a team of three foreign pathologists, whose results were shared publicly on Tuesday.
While a second autopsy is scheduled to take place in the United States, authorities emphasized that the thorough examination revealed no signs of trauma or assault. Additionally, toxicology reports indicated ethanol levels typical of postmortem decomposition and ruled out the possibility of sexual assault.
The investigation suggested that Adriana likely sank to the bottom of the pool, resurfacing later due to natural processes associated with decomposition in tropical environments. The child’s body was found in the pool of the Double Day Hotel just a day after she was reported missing, a case that sparked significant community unrest.
Despite the findings, the family of Adriana Younge has sought further clarification through a second autopsy in the U.S., after an initial pathologist in Trinidad was unable to participate locally.
