DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – The Dubai Capitals, the reigning champions of the International League T20 (ILT20), have confirmed the retention of West Indies T20 captain Shai Hope and all-rounder Rovman Powell as they prepare for the 2025 season.
In the previous tournament, Hope shone as the top run scorer, amassing 527 runs over 12 innings with an impressive average of 58.55 and a strike rate of 124.29, including one century and three half-centuries. Powell contributed significantly as well, scoring 202 runs at an average of 33.66 and a notable strike rate of 145.32.
Additionally, the Capitals have retained Gulbadin Naib and bolstered their lineup by welcoming new players: Afghanistan’s wrist spinner Waqar Salamkheil, England’s left-arm quick Luke Wood, and UAE’s left-arm seamer Muhammad Jawadullah.
Meanwhile, other teams are making strategic moves as well. MI Emirates have kept all-rounder Romario Shepherd and added Chris Woakes and Kamindu Mendis. Johnson Charles will continue with the Sharjah Warriorz, while the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, retaining Andre Russell and Sunil Narine, have acquired Sherfane Rutherford, Liam Livingstone, and Alex Hales to enhance their squad.
The six franchises are set to finalize their rosters in an upcoming player auction, with specifics to be revealed soon. In a strategic move, the ILT20 has rescheduled the next edition to a December-January timeframe to avoid overlap with the men’s T20 World Cup slated for February to March.
