A 4-year-old child was hospitalized following a mountain lion attack at Olympic National Park in Washington. The incident occurred near Victoria Overlook on Hurricane Ridge on a Sunday afternoon, as the child was walking with family.
Park rangers were notified of the situation shortly after 3 p.m., and emergency responders were dispatched. The young victim was airlifted to a hospital in Seattle for medical treatment.
After the attack, park staff quickly initiated a search for the mountain lion. They located the animal later that day and made the decision to euthanize it the following morning. The National Park Service has assured the public that there remains no ongoing threat and is conducting an investigation into the incident.
A spokesperson emphasized that rangers are collecting further information and encouraged anyone who witnessed the attack to come forward.
This event follows another similar incident from the previous summer, where a 5-year-old boy sustained serious injuries during a mountain lion attack in Southern California. In that case, the cougar was also euthanized by state rangers.
