In a proactive response to Typhoon Wutip, the first typhoon of the year, China has escalated its emergency measures to Level III for flood and storm management across Hainan, Guangdong, and Guangxi regions. This decision comes from the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, as the nation employs a four-tier emergency response system where Level I indicates the highest severity.
As Typhoon Wutip approaches, heavy rain has already begun to affect Guangzhou City, located in Guangdong Province. A specialized team has been sent to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to assist with on-the-ground response efforts. Additionally, two teams formerly assigned are continuing aid in flood and typhoon prevention in Hainan’s Ledong Li Autonomous County and the coastal city of Zhanjiang within Guangdong.
At 10 a.m. on Friday, the eye of Typhoon Wutip, categorized as a severe tropical storm, was reported off Ledong’s coast. Meteorologists predict it will move northward at roughly 10 kilometers per hour, potentially making landfall between Xuwen and Beihai by Saturday afternoon.
Significant rainfall, classified as heavy to torrential, is expected from Friday through Sunday in the impacted areas of Hainan, western and northern Guangdong, as well as eastern and coastal sections of Guangxi.
