During the recently concluded Dragon Boat Festival, China experienced an impressive surge in railway passenger travel, with over 78.75 million trips reported, marking a 3.5% increase compared to the previous year. This notable figure was recorded between May 30 and June 3, as data from the China State Railway Group indicated.
The rise in passenger trips is attributed to the overlap of the traditional festival and International Children’s Day, which significantly boosted family gatherings and domestic tourism. To meet the heightened travel demand, the railway network enhanced operations by running an average of 12,142 passenger trains daily, reflecting a 9.9% increase from last year.
Travelers enjoyed a variety of onboard and station activities that celebrated traditional customs. Over 1,000 train stations and select trains offered engaging events, such as zongzi-making, bracelet weaving, and holiday trivia games. Additionally, service improvements included more efficient ticketing and transfer processes, enhanced dining options, and specialized support for elderly passengers, children, and those with special needs.
