On June 9, 2025, the Ministry of Education successfully completed the nationwide distribution of the “Because We Care” Cash Grant along with the School Uniform and Supplies Grant. This year’s initiative benefitted over 205,000 students, resulting in a total disbursement of approximately $11.28 billion to parents and guardians. Each child received $55,000, demonstrating the Government of Guyana’s dedication to supporting families and enhancing educational participation.
Distributions took place across all eleven education districts, with Georgetown leading the initiative, receiving $2.1 billion for 38,284 students. Region 3, Essequibo Islands-West Demerara followed with $1.53 billion for 27,830 students, and Region 6, East Berbice-Corentyne, saw $1.26 billion allocated to 23,023 students. Significant distributions were also made in Regions 4C, 4B, 1, and 2.
The Ministry of Education extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated Regional and District Education Officers, head teachers, teachers, and support staff who ensured the efficient distribution process. Acknowledging that some parents may have missed their scheduled pick-up dates, a mop-up period will soon be announced to accommodate those affected.
This cash grant initiative signifies a vital commitment to Guyana’s children, promoting educational equity and easing financial burdens for families, and continues to underscore the government’s aim for quality education for all.
