Thandi McAllister, a former member of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNC/R), has voiced concerns regarding the lack of youth inclusion during David Granger’s presidency. Now an advocate for President Dr. Irfaan Ali and the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C), McAllister expressed disappointment that Granger, in a recent statement, advised young Guyanese voters to avoid empty promises.
She asserted that Granger’s words would have been more impactful had he actively engaged with youth during his tenure. “Unfortunately, what took shape was a geriatric movement, which, in my opinion, contributes to his current status as a former leader trying to make his voice heard,” McAllister remarked on the Starting Point podcast this week.
After the PNC-led APNU+AFC coalition won the 2015 elections, youth engagement was touted as essential, yet McAllister claimed that this demographic was sidelined once in power, prompting her exit after years of allegiance to the party. With the next General and Regional Elections on the horizon, McAllister emphasizes that these elections will be crucial for the nation’s future, advocating for Dr. Ali’s leadership as transformative since his election in 2020. She encourages the populace to rally behind Ali in pursuit of progress.
