
The defending champions, Cropper Primary, aim to hold onto their title in the Berbice zone of the Future Warriors Tapeball Tournament for Primary Schools. They are set to contend against Tain Primary in the second semi-final, while Betsy Ground Primary faces New Market Primary in the first semi-final at the Albion Sports Complex today.
In their quarter-final match, Cropper scored 102 runs for 3 wickets in 8 overs, with notable contributions from Jayden Gardner, Nehad Khan, and Tejpaul Persaud, each scoring 23 runs. Massiah Primary gave a strong response, finishing at 96 runs for 2 wickets, thanks to an outstanding innings of 62 runs from Poonish Harry.
Betsy Primary successfully chased down Fyrish’s target of 65 within 6.4 overs, led by Kenny Ishmile who scored 24 runs. Meanwhile, Tain set a competitive score of 96 for 4 against Rose Hall Town Primary, who managed 75 runs for 5 wickets.
In another match, New Market easily chased down Skeldon’s low total of 21 runs. The tournament organizers are supporting participation by providing necessary gear and meals for the students.
The champions from each zone will receive a gear bag filled with tapeball cricket equipment and a coveted spot in the ‘Champions of Champions’ tournament, with winners gaining exclusive access to activities with ExxonMobil Guyana during the Caribbean Premier League.
Grove Primary recently triumphed in the Demerara zone, with the Essequibo zone competition set for June 21-22.
