Wispriey Alfonso, a 40-year-old Cuban citizen, has been remanded to prison following the shocking murder of his 21-year-old stepdaughter, Davely Morales, which also left her mother, Milaysi Rodrigues, critically injured.
On Thursday, Alfonso appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. He is not required to enter a plea at this stage concerning the serious charge and will remain in custody until July 9, 2025, as the investigation continues.
The horrifying incident occurred on May 23 at their rented apartment on Pike Street, Kitty, where the family had resided for approximately a month. Along with the victim, the household included Milaysi, aged 38, and their nine-year-old daughter.
According to police reports, several neighbors heard screams around 7:00 AM, witnessing Alfonso attacking Rodrigues with a chopping instrument while she lay on the living room floor. Morales, who had already sustained multiple injuries, attempted to escape but collapsed in the hallway shortly after.
Despite the prompt response of emergency services, Morales was declared dead upon arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital. Meanwhile, Rodrigues was hospitalized with serious injuries, fighting for her life.
An autopsy revealed that Morales suffered severe chop wounds to her hands, back of the head, and jaw. Following the attack, Alfonso turned himself in at the Kitty Police Station, still carrying the weapon used in the brutal assault.
