A shocking case of human trafficking has come to light in Guyana, with a 49-year-old businessman facing severe consequences. Alvin Parag, from Diamond Housing Scheme and Alberttown, Georgetown, was remanded to prison on September 23 after being charged with Trafficking in Persons involving a Cuban national.
The accused allegedly trafficked a 31-year-old female Cuban national between March 29 and June 7, 2025, at Diamond, East Bank Demerara. Parag pleaded not guilty to the charge but was denied bail due to the severity of the crime.
The case has been adjourned to October 6, 2025, for further investigation. The Guyana Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to combating Trafficking in Persons and has launched an investigation into a separate report of Simple Larceny involving approximately $5 million (GYD).
