A recent cyber attack campaign, known as Salt Typhoon, has left many wondering if their personal data is safe. Cybersecurity experts warn that the attackers have gained unprecedented access to telecommunications data, putting millions of Americans at risk.
The hackers, believed to be affiliated with Chinese intelligence services, have been targeting various aspects of American life, including government, transportation, and military infrastructure networks.
According to a joint advisory by international law enforcement agencies, the attackers can now ‘identify and track their targets’ communications and movements around the world.’
Cybersecurity expert Pete Nicoletti has expressed concern that the hackers have established a foothold in various organizations and are still undetected.
‘My biggest concern is they’re still in various organizations and undetected,’ he said. ‘So the thing that I worry about is not the next time that these guys hack somebody, it’s what they’re doing currently and who they’re in.’
