The Japanese brewing company, Asahi, has confirmed that a ransomware attack may have compromised its personal data during the recent cyber-attack that disrupted its operations.
The attack, which targeted Asahi’s systems and operations in Japan, forced the company to pause production at most of its 30 factories. While all facilities have now partially reopened, computer systems remain down, and orders are being processed manually.
Asahi is investigating the extent of the data breach and has identified the possibility that personal information may have been stolen. The company has assured those affected that they will be notified promptly and measures will be taken to protect their information.
The ransomware group Qilin claimed responsibility for the attack, which has previously targeted major organizations, including the NHS. Asahi’s financial results are also expected to be delayed due to the disruption caused by the attack.
The incident highlights the growing concern of cyber-attacks on businesses and the importance of cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive information.
