Daniel Seeram, the Chairman of the Regional Democratic Council for Region 4, has made a notable political move by supporting the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) for the upcoming elections. This announcement came on his social media accounts on Tuesday evening, subsequent to his discussions with President Irfaan Ali and Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo.
In his statement, Seeram remarked, “After productive discussions and thorough contemplation on national and regional growth issues, I am delighted to endorse President Irfaan Ali and Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo for another term to lead the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.” His switch from the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) to the PPP has surprised many, although some close to him noted a gradual departure from his original party.
Initially joining the PNCR in 2019, Seeram quickly ascended to the role of Regional Chairman for Region Four following the 2020 elections. This region is the most densely populated and economically significant area in Guyana, housing its capital and the national government.
Seeram was integrated into the PNCR’s Central Executive by leader Aubrey Norton in 2022. However, he later attracted controversy, facing legal issues and allegations of domestic violence. Despite calls for his resignation from his Regional Chair role after these incidents, he remained in position, asserting his commitment to serving the people of Guyana. Nonetheless, he had expressed frustrations about being sidelined by the central government in regional development initiatives.
