Dawn Hastings-Williams, a notable former General Secretary of the PNCR and a past Minister of State with the APNU+AFC coalition, has aligned herself with businessman Azruddin Mohamed, who has faced sanctions from the United States government.
Mohamed is preparing to run in the 2025 General and Regional Elections under his party, “We Invest in Nationhood” (WIN). In a recent announcement on Team Mohamed’s Facebook page, Hastings-Williams expressed her full support for his vision.
She stated, “As an indigenous woman, my commitment extends beyond my people to all Guyanese, regardless of political ties, religion, or skin color. I believe in a movement focused on investing in Nationhood, and WIN offers a competitive and robust vision to guide Guyana forward.”
While it remains uncertain whether Hastings-Williams formally resigned from her long-standing association with the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) — a party deeply connected with her family for years — she did step down as General Secretary in 2024.
Renowned for her influential role in Guyana’s political landscape, Hastings-Williams proudly identifies as an Akawaio woman from the Upper Mazaruni in Region Seven.
