A crash reconstruction expert, Dr. Daniel Wolfe, was recently called to testify in Karen Read’s ongoing defense case, shedding new light on the incident involving her alleged drunk driving hit-and-run that resulted in the death of her former boyfriend, John O’Keefe. Dr. Wolfe presented a series of video recreations demonstrating the impact of a 2021 Lexus LX 570 SUV on a crash dummy, revealing significant discrepancies in damage compared to that recorded on Read’s vehicle.
During trials, the impact tests, conducted at speeds between 10 to 29 mph, showed that the damage to the taillight of Read’s SUV did not align with the damage observed on her actual vehicle. Notably, while some test impacts destroyed the outer taillight lens, many internal components on Read’s vehicle remained intact. Wolfe also examined O’Keefe’s sweatshirt, finding that damages from the tests did not replicate the clothing damage found on him, further undermining the prosecution’s claims.
Judge Beverly Cannone paused the proceedings for lunch, while special prosecutor Hank Brennan was preparing for cross-examination of Wolfe, marking the 28th day of Read’s retrial on charges related to O’Keefe’s death, a case gaining significant public and media attention.
