Two men, Leon Defreitas, 36, a DJ from Kuru Kururu, and Ryan Rajnarine, 30, an office assistant and self-identified “music selector” from Soesdyke Back Road, are set to appear in Friendship Magistrate’s Court today.
They are charged with inciting Barry Sullivan, a wanted man, to commit a sexual assault that was recorded and circulated on social media, inciting widespread outrage and prompting an urgent governmental response alongside an extensive criminal investigation.
Police reports indicate that the incident took place on July 13, 2025, at Raghoo’s Bar. The legal advisor to the police has advised that both men be charged under the Sexual Offences Act for allegedly encouraging Sullivan to engage in non-consensual intercourse with a female.
Sullivan is currently being sought by authorities. Investigators have stated that Defreitas and Rajnarine played complicit roles, promoting the assault in front of bystanders while music played.
The survivor, a 20-year-old woman of Amerindian descent, has since reported she was drugged and assaulted by three men, including Sullivan. This case has prompted strong condemnation from officials such as Dr. Vindhya Persaud, the Minister of Human Services and Social Security, who has called for sever penalties for all who were involved and has suggested the permanent closure of Raghoo’s Bar due to its reputation for facilitating criminal activities.
