In a recent live Facebook address, President Dr. Irfaan Ali outlined his ambitious plans to alleviate the cost of living over the next five years, primarily focusing on vital services such as energy, water, transportation, food, and housing.
Emphasizing the need for affordable essentials, Dr. Ali stated, “Cooking gas is not a luxury—it’s an essential service,” announcing a significant reduction in the price of cooking gas cylinders to $1,000.
To address transportation expenses, the government plans to introduce new ferries and cargo boats, implement subsidies for farmers, and enhance regional ferry infrastructure. The initiative will also include free transportation for students and the elderly, alongside new market access routes.
Dr. Ali stressed that reducing these living costs is integral not just for immediate relief, but as part of a broader economic strategy. He remarked, “When we cut these costs, we lift families. When we lift families, we grow the nation.” This approach aims to foster long-term economic growth while simultaneously supporting citizens in their daily lives.
