
A tragic incident occurred early this morning in Lusignan, located on the East Coast of Demerara, where a 70-year-old man lost his life during a robbery, as reported by the police.
The victim, identified as Deonarine, was at home with his 69-year-old wife when two masked intruders forcibly entered their residence. According to the wife, she woke around 1:30 AM to a peculiar noise and ventured into the house’s other areas, only to confront the attackers.
The assailants reportedly tied her up and placed her in the washroom after one of them choked her. Despite her harrowing experience, she eventually managed to free herself. However, upon emerging into the hallway, she discovered her husband lying motionless on his back.
The police were alerted, and sadly, the elderly man was pronounced dead at the scene. It was noted that approximately $800,000 in cash, hidden in their home, was stolen during the invasion. Investigators indicated that there were no visible signs of violence on the deceased’s body, and a post-mortem examination is set to ascertain the cause of his death.
