The highly anticipated meeting to conclude the electoral process was called off at the last minute due to a no-show by opposition-nominated commissioners. Despite the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) securing a clear victory in the elections, the declaration of results remains stuck.
According to Commissioner Sase Gunraj, the meeting was summoned but no Opposition Commissioner showed up, forcing its adjournment.
The international observer missions have confirmed that the elections were free and fair, paving the way for a formal declaration. However, the absence of opposition commissioners has hindered the process.
According to Section 96 of the Representation of the People Act, the CEO will compile the official results based on declarations from Returning Officers, followed by verified recount outcomes. This report will then be presented to the Elections Commission for a final declaration.
