In Guyana, the path to resolving election disputes has been outlined by GECOM Chairperson Justice Claudette Singh. In a letter to APNU’s Aubrey Norton, she emphasized that election disputes must be taken to the High Court, as per Article 163 of the Constitution.
Justice Singh reminded Norton that the Commission’s primary responsibility is to conduct free, fair, and transparent elections, while adhering strictly to the laws of Guyana. She assured that any party aggrieved by the outcome will have the right to file an election petition to the High Court.
The Chairperson also noted that GECOM’s commitment is to ensuring that the will of the people is accurately reflected in the final results. She urged all stakeholders to allow the established legal and procedural mechanisms to run their course.
As the Chairperson, Justice Singh remains committed to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and will continue to operate within the confines of the law.
