Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C), emphasizes the need for strong enforcement in cases where election laws are broken.
‘If any laws are broken, there must be strong enforcement,’ he said during his weekly press conference. This sentiment is echoed by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), which has issued a statement warning against offering or accepting inducements in return for votes, as this is a serious crime.
GECOM’s stance highlights the importance of upholding election integrity and ensuring that all stakeholders contribute to a free, fair, transparent, and credible process.
As the country moves forward with its electoral processes, it is crucial that those in positions of power demonstrate their commitment to accountability and transparency,’ Jagdeo added.
