The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has officially set Nomination Day for parties and candidates participating in the forthcoming elections for July 14, 2025. The elections themselves are scheduled for September 1, as confirmed by the President.
In an announcement today, GECOM stated that political entities must submit their candidates’ lists on July 14. The necessary statutory forms for this submission can be accessed via the Commission’s website at www.gecom.org.gy.
Furthermore, prior to Nomination Day, political groups must seek approval from GECOM for their symbols by June 22, 2025.
Since GECOM has been actively conducting ongoing voter registration since January 2023, a brief Claims and Objections period will occur from June 16 to June 20, 2025. This is vital for compiling an Official List of Electors (OLE) crucial for the elections.
Eligible voters, particularly those who will be 18 years old by June 30, 2025, and who have not registered yet, are encouraged to apply during this window to ensure their inclusion in the OLE for the upcoming elections.
Individuals already registered can request corrections to inaccuracies on their National Identification Cards, update name changes, or transfer their registration if they have moved. GECOM’s Secretariat has received approval to enforce the outlined tasks in its election work plan, promoting the integrity of the electoral process.
