The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has taken measures to ensure a smooth counting of ballots from the recent General and Regional Elections. Despite power outages, solar lamps have been provided to polling stations to facilitate uninterrupted voting processes at night.
According to Public Relations Officer Yolanda Ward, GECOM has backup systems in place to prevent any disruptions. These include the provision of solar lamps to polling stations and backup systems for Returning Officers and Supernumerary Officers.
The commission had also ensured that power outages would not occur at tabulation centres across the country, but some generators were still on standby as a precaution. The electoral process continued uninterrupted, with results being uploaded to the GECOM website for public access.
