In a powerful address on Monday, President Dr. Irfaan Ali urged graduates of the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL) to leverage their new abilities for the benefit of Guyana. He expressed, “Guyana needs your skills, your voice, your passion, and your leadership.” This call to action comes as the nation experiences significant growth and transformation.
During the inaugural graduation ceremony of the year, themed “Enhancing the Nation’s Human Capacity,” President Ali commended the 580 graduates who received their master’s degrees, highlighting their commitment to personal development. With over 2000 students graduating this year, he emphasized the importance of education in driving both personal and national progress.
GOAL was created to provide educational opportunities for those unable to study abroad or take career breaks, utilizing virtual classrooms to overcome barriers of distance, cost, and time. The President noted that this transformative programme has begun to reshape access to education across the country.
Importantly, he acknowledged the significant participation of women in the program, representing 70% of enrollees. He encouraged them, particularly single mothers who balanced education with personal responsibilities, celebrating their achievements as true empowerment.
Concluding his address, President Ali called upon the graduates to embrace their new roles as leaders and positive ambassadors for the nation, stating, “Your journey is just beginning, and the future of Guyana relies on its human capital.” He also invited those who haven’t yet applied to GOAL to seize the educational opportunities available.
