Businessman Anil Beharry has shown his commitment to youth cricket in Guyana by contributing a prize for the upcoming Independence T10 Cup hosted by the Demerara Cricket Board on August 1 at the LBI Ground. Through his initiative, ‘Cricket Gear for Young and Promising Cricketers in Guyana,’ Beharry has donated a cricket bat, which will be awarded to the first Under-21 cricketer, male or female, to succeed at the event.
Beharry expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament and highlighted its importance, stating, “This is a great initiative by the Demerara Cricket Board, and we see it fit to reward a young cricketer because we know costly it can be to play this sport.”
The event will feature eight first-division teams from Demerara competing in a knockout format, including teams like Better Hope and Enterprise. There’s a total cash prize pool of G$500,000, with G$250,000 going to the champion and G$150,000 to the runners-up. The semi-finalists will also receive G$50,000 each.
Action is set to begin at 10:00 AM and will continue into the evening under floodlights. Admission is priced at G$1,000, and fans can look forward to various gate prizes. The tournament is supported by multiple sponsors including Ansa McAl Trading and Republic Bank, making it a highly anticipated fixture on the cricket calendar.
