During a lengthy cross-examination on Tuesday, Edgar Thomas, the former Police Commander for Region 4, conceded that he lacked substantial evidence to support parts of his testimony in the ongoing Election Fraud trial.
In March 2020, as the Region 4 ‘A’ Commander, Thomas participated in security discussions with high-ranking officials, including the former Police Commissioner and the Chief Election Officer. He explained that his role involved overseeing the external security of the Ashmin’s Building, while the Elections Commission managed internal security.
Thomas stated that on election day, he received verbal orders from the then Police Commissioner, Leslie James, to secure all election materials, including Statements of Poll. However, when pressed by Defense Attorney Ronald Daniels, Thomas admitted that the instructions were documented in a police diary that he had previously destroyed due to its classified nature.
When questioned about the absence of evidence corroborating his claims, Thomas frankly stated, “I have nothing, sir.” In a surprising revelation, he clarified that this diary, which was presumed missing, had been intentionally destroyed to protect sensitive information. Initially, he suggested its disappearance but later retracted, confirming it was his decision to eliminate the document.
Despite the diary being crucial for validating much of his testimony, Thomas justified his actions by asserting it was his personal property. The former commander is scheduled to continue his testimony in court tomorrow.
