On Wednesday, New York authorities revealed the identity of a potential victim linked to the Gilgo Beach serial killer, known as Peaches, whose remains were discovered in 1997.
Asa Ellerup is faced with the shocking reality that her former husband, Rex Heuermann, is implicated in the murders of seven women, primarily sex workers, whose bodies were found near Gilgo Beach on Long Island. Heuermann, a prominent NYC architect, has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
After nearly three decades of marriage, Ellerup initiated divorce proceedings shortly after Heuermann’s arrest. The couple and their children have shared their perspectives in the new docuseries, The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets.
Director Jared P. Scott described Ellerup as profoundly affected by these events, trapped in a cycle of reminiscing about their life together, attempting to reconcile the man she knew with the actions heβs accused of.
Although the divorce finalized in April, Ellerup still contends that Heuermann is “not capable” of the alleged crimes, asserting he is a devoted family man and expressing disbelief that he engaged with sex workers.
In contrast, their daughter, Victoria Heuermann, conveyed her strong suspicion that her father likely committed the murders. She expressed her internal conflict during shooting, revealing she felt uncertain about the reality of the situation, given her age during the alleged crimes.
