Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) is poised for significant growth in its tourism sector, following a strategic initiative led by President Dr. Irfaan Ali. Emphasizing the region’s potential for economic diversification, the President highlighted the importance of enhancing critical infrastructure to support tourism’s rise.
A key component of this vision includes constructing an ecosystem focused on nature, sports, leisure, and adventure. The addition of a world-class stadium in Anna Regina, set to host international events, will create jobs and stimulate regional growth. Plans are already in place for some Caribbean Premier League (CPL) matches to take place at this venue.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr. reinforces that the stadium development is progressing swiftly, which is essential for attracting tourism and enhancing the region’s appeal.
Underlining Region Two’s role as a ‘tourism basket’ in Guyana, President Ali stressed the integration of agri-tourism and sustainable practices into the development plan. He also announced the construction of three cold storage facilities aimed at assisting farmers in better preserving and marketing their crops.
Additionally, to bolster the region’s connectivity, a new ferry will enhance the Parika–Supenaam route, improving transportation for residents and goods. This is expected to promote tourism by facilitating easier travel, thus creating synergies between the Essequibo Coast and broader areas of Guyana.
