Israeli military operations have resulted in the deaths of 23 Palestinians near a humanitarian aid distribution site, as confirmed by witnesses and medical personnel. Reports indicate that tanks and drones engaged crowds at a center operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) supported by the U.S. and Israel.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) asserted that troops issued warnings before firing, claiming they targeted individuals approaching their positions. However, the GHF disputed the occurrence of any such shooting. The situation escalated as more than 400 Palestinians reportedly have died in similar contexts since late May, following a blockade that prevented food supplies from entering Gaza, placing the population at severe risk, according to a UN evaluation.
Injuries and fatalities have been confirmed, with al-Awda hospital receiving numerous casualties. Unicef criticized the GHF-led distribution system, highlighting that unclear communication regarding aid site availability has exacerbated the dire humanitarian crisis.
Separately, at least 12 Palestinians lost their lives awaiting assistance last Thursday, with further casualties reported as Israeli forces engaged crowds seeking aid from the World Food Program. The humanitarian situation worsens as reports indicate that Gaza’s water system is on the verge of collapse, with only 40% of water facilities operational.
In ongoing violence, recent airstrikes have led to additional fatalities, including 11 in an attack on a residential area. Renewed military actions appear to be targeting Hamas elements amid rising tensions and a previous lull in airstrikes.
