Federal agents have apprehended a man reportedly plotting to deploy fireworks and explosive devices against law enforcement during anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles. Grzegorz Vandenberg, 48, faces serious federal charges for allegedly purchasing fireworks with the intent to injure police and government officials amid the unrest.
According to the Department of Justice, Vandenberg sought guidance at a travel center in New Mexico on fireworks that could be thrown to inflict harm. It was claimed that he boasted of his military background and hinted at a plan to create pipe bombs.
Vandenberg’s ambitions were discovered after he allegedly expressed his desire to use explosives against officers at the Los Angeles protests, even suggesting lethal intentions and inviting a store employee to join his malicious plans.
He reportedly purchased six mortars and 36 large fireworks, which contained significant amounts of gunpowder. Attorney General Pam Bondi condemned these actions, stating, “Threats like these strike at the heart of law and order,” emphasizing the government’s unwavering stance against those who target law enforcement.
The FBI reiterated its commitment to track down individuals plotting harm against officers, highlighting how a vigilant store cashier helped bring Vandenberg’s intentions to light. He has been charged with transporting explosives for purposes of intimidation or injury and now faces a possible 10-year prison sentence if convicted, pending his trial.
