This is a developing story, as law enforcement officials continue their investigation into the recent bank robbery in North Carolina.
A truck driver with a history of crime has been arrested and charged with bank robbery and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.
The suspect, Willie Edward McGee Jr., allegedly entered a bank in Zebulon, North Carolina, on December 26th, and demanded money from a teller while claiming to have C-4 explosives. He then fled the scene in a semi-truck, leaving behind a trail of terror for law enforcement officers.
According to authorities, McGee’s truck was found in a Hobby Lobby parking lot, where he allegedly exited the vehicle armed with a rifle and fired at officers. The police responded by firing back, striking McGee and taking him into custody without any injuries to law enforcement or civilians.
The suspect has a lengthy criminal history, with dozens of charges dating back over 20 years. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to come forward.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche described the incident as ‘domestic terror,’ emphasizing that the suspect’s actions were not driven by desperation but rather a deliberate attempt to threaten innocent civilians and law enforcement officers. As such, McGee faces decades in federal prison for his crimes.
