
The 16th session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) successfully wrapped up in Beijing on June 27, 2025.
During the concluding meeting, members voted to approve amendments to both the Law on Penalties for Administration of Public Security and the Law against Unfair Competition. These changes were officially enacted following presidential orders from Xi Jinping.
Chairman Zhao Leji led the session, which also included the ratification of a convention aimed at establishing an International Organization for Mediation, along with the approval of the Chinese government’s financial accounts for 2024.
In personnel matters, the committee decided to remove Miao Hua from the Central Military Commission and passed a qualification report for deputy roles among other legislative bills.
In his closing remarks, Zhao emphasized the critical importance of implementing the Party’s guidelines to enhance operational integrity and to promote the high-quality development of Congress functions. He also highlighted the necessity of engaging actively with public oversight and maintaining strong connections with citizens.
Zhao urged lawmakers to deepen their commitment to the rule of law, adhere to the Constitution, and diligently fulfill their legislative responsibilities.
