Dr. Ashni Singh, the Minister of Finance in Guyana, has strongly criticized the manifesto presented by the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, labeling it as devoid of originality and full of copied concepts. He articulated that the document is “woefully short on originality,” echoing initiatives that the ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) is already pursuing or has planned to roll out.
During a conversation with News Room, Dr. Singh illustrated instances from the WIN manifesto that closely mirror the PPP’s initiatives, such as the proposal for a new development bank aimed at supporting small and medium-sized enterprises. The PPP has already pledged to establish such a bank, highlighting its commitment to enhancing access to financing for these businesses.
Moreover, Dr. Singh noted WIN’s suggestions regarding business incubators and adaptations to the 2021 Local Content Act, asserting that these ideas have also been part of the PPP’s agenda. He emphasized that the PPP has consistently delivered on promises related to housing, cash incentives, and recently, reducing travel costs in hinterland areas.
In summary, Dr. Singh characterized the WIN manifesto as a disappointing rehash of previously stated PPP plans, lacking in innovative solutions and originality.
