Police on Monday arrested a 25-year-old resident of ‘C’ Field, Sophia, after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The arrest took place at around 12:20 hrs. Police Headquarters stated that two officers were on duty in the area when they received information about a domestic violence report.
Upon their arrival, they noticed a suspicious individual walking out of the yard, who was subsequently stopped and identified as Kyle Small.
A search revealed a 9mm Taurus pistol hidden in his pants crotch, along with five live rounds of ammunition.
Small admitted to not being a licensed firearm holder, prompting his arrest and cautioning.
The suspect is currently in custody, while investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Prison Service has commissioned its new headquarters at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.
