First Uranium Production at China’s Largest Project

In a significant milestone for sustainable mining, the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) announced the successful production of the first barrel of uranium at its largest natural uranium project, the “National No.1 Uranium,” located in Ordos, Inner Mongolia. This project not only showcases cutting-edge uranium mining and processing technology but also emphasizes environmental sustainability and efficiency.

Completed in just one year from initiation, this facility is distinguished by its advanced construction techniques, making it a leader in capacity and modern operational standards within China. Yuan Xu, chairman of China National Uranium Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CNNC, highlighted its key features, which include innovative remote control operations and intelligent analytical processes, making uranium extraction more predictable and manageable.

This new facility is part of China’s broader strategy to enhance its nuclear power capabilities, which currently boast the highest capacity globally across active, under-construction, and approved projects. The technologies developed here are set to be rapidly deployed across northern China’s uranium mining operations, facilitating the establishment of additional major mining facilities.
