After evading arrest for almost nine years, 28-year-old Dave Ramnauth, known as “Shandy,” has been charged with the murder of 29-year-old Surendra Nauth from Albion, Corentyne. Ramnauth, a fisherman residing in Portuguese Quarters, was apprehended on June 22, 2025, and charged on June 26, 2025.
This charge stems from a deadly confrontation that occurred between January 16 and 17, 2016, in Williamsburg, Corentyne. The altercation erupted following a dispute involving a damaged tire, during which Nauth and his brother-in-law, Totaram Bhola, confronted Ramnauth over their vehicle. Reports indicate the situation escalated violently, with Ramnauth allegedly stabbing both men. Nauth suffered a lethal stab wound to his abdomen and was pronounced dead after being transported to the New Amsterdam Hospital. Bhola, who sustained injuries to his forehead, was treated and survived the incident.
At the time of the altercation, Ramnauth had recently completed a prison sentence for wounding. Following the event, he fled from law enforcement for nearly a decade until his recent capture. He appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court, where he was remanded in custody without plea. The case is set to proceed on July 15, 2025, at the Albion Magistrate’s Court for further reports and statements.
