
A meticulously organized police intelligence operation successfully averted an attempted robbery at a Chinese grocery store in New Amsterdam, Berbice, on Thursday afternoon, leading to the arrest of four suspects.
At around 2 PM, law enforcement officials, led by a Senior Police Officer, intercepted two vehicles on the access road to the Berbice River Bridge.
Inside the vehicles were four male suspects. During the search, officers uncovered a .38 caliber revolver, identified by its serial number J465543, hidden in a compartment beneath the steering wheel, alongside five rounds of ammunition.
The accused, all aged between 18 and 29 and hailing from Georgetown, are presently in custody and are cooperating with the authorities as the investigation proceeds. Initial reports indicate that they were poised to execute a robbery at the grocery store.
