In a tragic turn of events, Gary Melville, a 46-year-old laborer from Lima Sands on the Essequibo Coast, was reportedly killed by a 23-year-old farmer from the same community. The incident is said to have occurred between 8 PM on Friday and 5:30 AM on Saturday.
According to investigations, Melville and the accused, who were friends, spent the evening together at a local shop, drinking alcohol. A shopkeeper noted that the two were involved in an argument after the suspect claimed Melville had burned him with a cigarette. This confrontation escalated into a physical scuffle, during which the shopkeeper witnessed the suspect bleeding from the head while Melville was left on the ground.
After a brief absence, Melville departed the shop, walking north. The suspect then left on his motorcycle, following the same route. Several hours later, a passerby discovered Melville lying motionless on the roadside and alerted the authorities.
Upon their arrival, police found multiple injuries on Melville’s body, which was subsequently pronounced dead at Suddie Hospital. The suspect was later discovered with injuries and was arrested, taken for medical treatment, and returned to custody as investigations continue.
