A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of aiding the commission of trafficking cannabis. Shemroy Robertson was convicted on Friday, June 18th, 2021, following a sting operation conducted by the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU). He was arrested on June 28th, 2021, along with several kilograms of cannabis. This is not his first brush with the law; he was previously charged in 2016 for possessing cocaine and granted bail of $600,000, which is still pending.
Robertson’s case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in Guyana. The CANU has been working tirelessly to disrupt supply chains and bring perpetrators to justice.
